Speaking of Peak Performance

Your brain is wired to chase the promise of reward, but what happens when expectations aren’t met?

Did you notice a shift in your body when you read that sentence?

If not, try again.

What happened? Just reading that a negative or unexpected outcome is a possibility to intentional effort can evoke an energetic response in the nervous system.

You may have felt a sinking and heaviness flood your body, which may or may not have then rapidly shifted into a take control type energy where the body is activated to move forward and up to overcome the possibility of failure.

Neither response is right or wrong. Though all our nervous systems share similar survival strategies, each has its own rhythm and pattern to combat perceived threats to wellbeing.

This edge, where the mind and body collaborate to solve problems, tackle challenges and expand potential is the defining compass that governs your mental and emotional ability to navigate success and failure.

So it makes sense to tune into both the subtle and not so subtle signals of how our mind and body are reacting to circumstances before we intentionally respond. But most of us don’t.

Instead, we let our unregulated, subconscious mind do the driving and react however it originally learned to react whenever our body first felt similar pattern of signals from the nervous system. Physically, we’re developmental beings, which means from we’ve been creating circuits and habits from infancy on how to interact with our environment in order to stay alive.

Not surprisingly, social connection is the primary way our nervous systems create a sense of security and safety, which is why relationships rank at the top of primordial need.

What’s all this have to do with peak performance and creating the life/performance of your dreams?

Everything.

Whether or not we are accurately tuned into the signals of our internal compass and the meanings our mind makes, which is often based on old information from childhood patterning, we are performing in life, school, career, relationships and competitive sports from our unconscious state of being–that is, until we make our compass conscious and calibrate it more accurately.

I teach high achieving athletes, entrepreneurs, businesses, leadership teams and parents how to unleash their superpowers, by aligning with a highly attuned inner compass to become an unstoppable force.
